Google Forms - basics and beyond

Google Forms can be a real time saver - once you master the basics you can use forms in countless ways. Do you need to quickly collect data from students/staff? Forms is the way. Differentiated assignments/tasks? Forms can be used for that as well. Exit ticket? Quizzes? Surveys? Collecting homework? You’ve guessed it, Forms again.

In this session we will start by looking at the basics - how to set up a form and what are the main elements of a form. Then we will look into how we can incorporate Forms in our lessons. By the end of the session you will have a basic understanding of using forms and you will also get tips and tricks on advanced features you can try on your own.

Teachers Teaching Teachers Tech
Moving from a few Google-trained faculty members to a faculty that widely understands and uses Google apps on a day to day business is something of a trick.

The Leysin American School, after a few years of struggling to get everyone involved, developed a year long, on-going professional development model in which all teachers were responsible for teaching about a few features Google has to offer. While no single teacher needed to prove competence in many areas, teachers in groups did need to follow a template for their presentation which required knowledge of sites, forms, docs, and calendar.

In other words, the professional development concentrated narrowly on a few topics, but broadly due to the process and manner in which we required information be shared with others. The final results from each teacher group included a Google site with further information.

In this session, the logic of the approach, with real examples, will be shared first. Participants will then have time to construct their own outline, with their school's own needs in mind, to bring back to their home school as a schoolwide approach to deepening understanding of Google Apps.

Fostering Digital Citizenship in K-12 Environments
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility!

This quotable quote was first uttered by a certain spider-like superhero forty years ago. Over these forty years not a lot has changed in terms of being a good citizen, but the worlds of citizenship have grown. Our means of interaction with each other and in our communities has broadened. We live in both physical and digital worlds with connections and relationships that may exist in just on or the other, but often cross over as well. In all of these communities we need to be aware, be responsible, care for each other, be respectful of each other's work and be mindful of our actions.

It is the same with our students. They use various technologies, and their relationships and connections cross between the on and offline worlds. What does being a digital citizen mean for them?

If you are interested in integrating Digital Citizenship, this is the session you are looking for. Learn how to foster a 21st century classroom community that is safe, responsible and respectful online, and explore resources such as Google's Digital Literacy and Citizenship Curriculum to help achieve these goals. Come and enjoy!

A journey towards a Google VLE
This session will describe my school's journey towards the creation of an online learning environment (VLE) by the use of an integrated framework of Google Apps.
The session will show how the apps can be leveraged to deliver a dynamic, responsive and tailored online service for all users in the school.
For instance:
- A google site page that provides students with links to their class pages where class mail and their grades can be viewed
- A google form that collates and presents an overview of curriculum planning
- Spreadsheets to manage performance management
The coverage is broad and involves consideration of Apps Scripts, Add-ons and third party software such as Hapara and Ultradox. It is a demonstration of harnessing the power of the Apps suite to provide useful, dynamic and fully integrated services to school users.

Making your own videos with Wevideo, CaptureCast / Snagit and Google Drawings

Video projects help students plan, organise, collaborate, communicate, analyze. The creation process becomes even more meaningful when students can collaborate in real time. The GAFE platform allows this. Using WeVideo, CaptureCast or SnagIt and Google Draw, students can easily create videos. WeVideo is an intuitive cloud-based video editor. Snagit can be used to screencast your desktop or record voice layovers. Using Google Drawings, you can create simple diagrams to be included in your videos.

All of these products are seamlessly connected to Google Drive.

The session is hands-on - we will go through some case studies, showcasing how videos can be used in the classroom and we will also create our own video during the session.

3D Printing using GAFE
During the session we will aim to introduce the basics of “How to use the 3D printer” and bringing together Technology, Students and Learning in ways that work.

Due to the nature of our presentation, being “hands on” the participants will first have an introduction to WHY 3D printing is beneficial. The participants will then have time to design a simple model by using “Design Something”. With the use of the Chrome extensions, the participants will learn about the basic tools in order to manipulate the object. The completed model will then get transferred (via Google Drive) into a 3D printer readable format - into Cura. We will demonstrate how to scale, change speed and some basic functions.Time permitting few models will be printed to highlight the whole process of Design to Realisation.

Examples of how 3D printing is beneficial for Education will be discussed, including us sharing examples of how we have incorporated the use of 3D printing in projects here, at ICS.
